Trump: Russia-Ukraine Talks 'Progressing Well'

US President Trump Announces Talks with Russia, Ukraine over Conflict Resolution

President Donald Trump has revealed that the US is set to hold talks with both Russia and Ukraine to facilitate a settlement in the ongoing conflict. In a statement to reporters on Sunday, Trump expressed optimism about these discussions, stating, “Those discussions are actually going pretty well.”

The US leader highlighted that the nation is addressing several global crises simultaneously, including those involving Israel, Ukraine, and Russia. He confirmed that meetings with representatives from both Kiev and Moscow are scheduled, indicating progress in diplomatic efforts.

Keith Kellogg, Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine, has suggested that both parties will need to make concessions for a peace deal. He told Fox News, “I think both sides will give a little bit,” adding that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is open to softening his stance on territorial claims. Meanwhile, Kellogg noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin would also need to adjust his positions.

Kellogg estimated that an agreement could be reached within months, stating, “It’s not years we are talking about. We have a solid action plan.”

On Saturday, Kellogg revealed that the US is pushing for Ukraine to hold elections later this year. This move comes after Kiev suspended presidential and parliamentary elections due to martial law, with Zelensky’s term having expired in May 2021.

Russian officials have indicated openness to talks with the US on the Ukrainian conflict but stressed that no substantial agreements have been reached yet.
