Trump Golf Course Hit by Protest Message

Protesters affiliated with the environmental group Greenpeace staged a demonstration at Donald Trump’s Turnberry golf course in Scotland Wednesday, utilizing rakes to create a large-scale land art installation on the beach near the course. The artwork depicted an image of the former U.S. President alongside the message “Time to resist – fight the billionaire takeover,” timed to coincide with the marking of his first 100 days in office – a reference to actions taken during that period.

The protest highlights growing concerns regarding the Trump administration’s environmental policies, specifically the withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement and continued support for fossil fuels like coal and oil. Greenpeace UK co-executive director Areeba Hamid stated the organization views Trump’s actions as actively dismantling environmental protections and attacking those who advocate for climate action.

This demonstration follows a similar protest last month where pro-Palestinian activists spray-painted graffiti on the course, declaring “Gaza is not for sale.” The repeated targeting of the Turnberry golf course suggests it has become a focal point for various protest movements seeking to draw attention to their causes by directly addressing the former President.

While peaceful, these actions raise questions about the effectiveness of targeting private businesses owned by public figures as a means of influencing policy. It’s a tactic that, while generating media attention, risks alienating potential supporters and may not directly translate into tangible environmental or political change. However, the consistent demonstrations clearly indicate a strong and sustained opposition to the policies associated with Trump and a broader concern about the influence of wealthy individuals on global affairs.
