A Democratic lawmaker recently criticized President Donald Trump for what he perceived as a delayed realization regarding U.S. relations with Russia and Ukraine. During an interview on CNN, Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) commended the Trump administration’s decision to lift restrictions on aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine following the announcement of a 30-day interim ceasefire agreement. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had earlier announced this agreement after eight hours of negotiations in Saudi Arabia.
Moskowitz expressed confusion over why the U.S. had been stricter with its allies, such as Canada, Ukraine, and Greenland, compared to Russia and Iran. He sarcastically remarked, ‘We got confused, obviously, for a moment.’ The lawmaker praised the administration’s reversal of the aid pause, calling it ‘good news’ that the U.S. is recognizing Ukraine as an ally rather than Russia.
When asked about Trump’s trade war with Canada, Moskowitz drew parallels to past conflicts in Latin America and warned against market instability caused by such policies. He expressed hope for a swift resolution to the trade tensions and emphasized the importance of maintaining strong relationships with allies like Canada.
The ceasefire agreement marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, shifting responsibility onto Russia to comply. Moskowitz’s comments highlight the administration’s evolving approach to international relations, particularly regarding its stance on key global issues.
