Iran Marks Islamic Revolution Anniversary with Nationwide Rallies

Iran celebrated the 46th anniversary of its Islamic Revolution on Monday, February 10, with massive rallies held across the country. The event commemorates the overthrow of the US-backed Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in 1979 and the establishment of the Islamic Republic under Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s leadership.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry urged citizens to participate in the celebrations, stressing the importance of unity and national will. Demonstrators gathered in Tehran’s Azadi Square and other cities, waving flags, chanting slogans, and carrying banners featuring Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and late General Qassem Soleimani.

Over 1,400 cities, towns, and 38,000 villages across Iran held rallies. Hundreds of foreign guests also attended the event. The Iranian Foreign Ministry described the rallies as a manifestation of unity and harmony among the Iranian people, reflecting their determination to safeguard the legacy of independence, freedom, democracy, and security.

The Islamic Revolution led to significant shifts in Iran’s domestic and foreign policies. It resulted in severed ties with the US and closer engagement with regional allies. However, it also strained relations with Western nations, leading to a series of sanctions aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear program and regional influence.

Despite facing numerous challenges over the past four decades, including an eight-year war with Iraq, terrorism, sabotage, illegal foreign interventions, unjust sanctions, and political and economic pressures, Tehran has continued to emphasize self-sufficiency.
