Rep. James Comer (R-KY), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has vowed to pursue criminal charges against ActBlue, a prominent Democratic fundraising platform, citing allegations of fraud. Comer made this announcement alongside right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson, who claimed on X that the investigation would lead to significant consequences for the Democratic Party. ‘We are going forward with our investigation,’ Johnson tweeted. ‘Their lawyers are leaving… This will be the end of the Democratic Party.’
ActBlue, a nonprofit organization, claims to support small-dollar donors aiming to influence political change in the U.S. However, Comer and his team have raised concerns about the legitimacy of these donations. He pointed out that the large volume of small contributions—often in $10 or $20 increments—raises red flags for potential fraud. ‘This thing is just rotten!’ Johnson remarked during their discussion.
Comer emphasized similarities between this investigation and past probes into the Biden family, stating, ‘We’re starting with the suspicious activities reports. These are the bank violations.’ He expressed confidence in FBI Director Kash Patel, describing him as a breath of fresh air compared to his predecessor. However, Comer declined to discuss specifics of their conversations regarding the ongoing investigation.
The announcement comes after Comer’s unsuccessful attempt to link President Joe Biden and his family to an ‘influence peddling’ scheme, which yielded no substantial evidence. Comer detailed his suspicions in a book released earlier this year and expressed frustration with the Biden administration’s lack of cooperation during previous probes. He remains determined to see this investigation through, signaling a potential turning point in political fundraising practices.
As tensions rise, the outcome of this probe could have significant implications for both ActBlue and the broader Democratic Party infrastructure.
