Karamoja Deserves Compensation for Colonial Wrongs

Though often overlooked, historical records suggest that the Karamoja sub-region may have been one of Uganda’s most economically prosperous areas before British colonial rule. However, under the British East African colonial administration, Karamoja experienced significant decline, leading to its current challenges. Today, the region faces issues such as poverty, environmental degradation, and border conflicts, which can be traced back to colonial policies that disrupted local economies and livelihoods. Dr. Ayub Mukisa argues that Karamoja deserves compensation for these historical injustices, emphasizing the need to address the lingering effects of colonialism. This call for reparations highlights the importance of acknowledging past wrongs and working towards a more equitable future for the region.
