Karamoja Coalition Revives Anti-Corruption Efforts in Subregion

The Karamoja Anti-Corruption Coalition (KACC), in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Coalition Uganda (ACCU), is set to revive its efforts to combat corruption in the Karamoja subregion. The coalition will resume organizing District Integrity Promotion Forums (DIPFs) and Barazas, which are community engagement initiatives aimed at fostering accountability and transparency.

KACC’s work is supported by the Royal Danish Embassy (RDE), which funds the ‘Civic Engagement for Accountability Project’ (CEAP). This project seeks to strengthen public participation in governance and promote ethical practices across the region. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to address corruption and build trust between communities and local authorities.

The resumption of these forums comes at a critical time as Karamoja faces challenges related to governance and resource management. By engaging stakeholders, including community leaders, civil society organizations, and government representatives, the DIPFs aim to identify systemic issues and develop actionable solutions. The Barazas will serve as platforms for dialogue, enabling participants to share experiences and strategies for fostering integrity.

The partnership between KACC and ACCU underscores a collective commitment to advancing anticorruption efforts in Uganda. Through these initiatives, the coalition hopes to empower communities to take an active role in promoting accountability and ensuring that public resources are used responsibly.

The ‘Civic Engagement for Accountability Project’ (CEAP) is designed to enhance civic participation in governance, particularly in regions like Karamoja where corruption has been a significant challenge. By implementing this project, KACC aims to strengthen the capacity of local communities to hold leaders accountable and drive positive change.

With support from the Royal Danish Embassy, KACC continues to play a vital role in Uganda’s fight against corruption. The resumption of DIPFs and Barazas marks an important step toward creating a more transparent and equitable governance framework in the Karamoja subregion.
