US Optimistic About Imminent Ukraine Peace Agreement
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has expressed optimism that a peace agreement to end the Ukraine conflict could be reached within days, according to President Donald Trump’s administration.
Speaking on Saturday, Leavitt emphasized the administration’s commitment to swiftly ending the conflict nearing its fourth year. “The president and his team are very much focused on continuing negotiations with both sides of this war to end the conflict,” she stated, expressing confidence in finalizing a deal this week.
Leavitt also shared that President Trump believes Russia is willing to make a deal and is actively working towards it. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz will be working tirelessly over the weekend to achieve this goal.
When asked about the possibility of a summit between President Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Leavitt did not provide specifics but hinted at ongoing discussions.
In parallel, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent continues negotiations on a potential deal granting the US access to Ukraine’s critical mineral resources. This partnership aims to recoup American tax dollars while aiding in Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction.
The Trump administration has been seeking a 50% stake in Ukraine’s rare earth mineral deposits valued at approximately $500 billion, in exchange for continued US military and economic support. However, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has rejected the initial offer due to concerns over insufficient security guarantees from the US.
