Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton Warns: New Administration “Bad News” for Ukraine
In an interview with Afshin Rattansi’s show ‘Going Underground’, former US national security adviser John Bolton shared his concerns about the new US administration’s stance on the Ukraine conflict.
Bolton, who served under President Trump from 2018 to 2019, believes that Trump does not want the Ukraine issue complicating his agenda. He suggested that Trump might offer Vladimir Putin a peace deal that would be favorable to Russia. Bolton stated, “He [Trump] wants a negotiation because he views it as Biden’s war… He wants it over with.”
The former national security adviser also pointed out that Trump recently threatened to cut off military assistance to Ukraine if it refuses to engage in peace talks with Russia.
Bolton criticized the potential terms for resolving the Ukraine conflict, stating they resemble “a peace plan that could be written in the Kremlin.” He argued that such a deal would likely involve Russia keeping its territory in Ukraine and NATO not accepting Ukraine as a member.
According to Bolton, Putin views Trump as an easy target due to his belief that US relations with foreign countries depend on personal relationships with their leaders.
