Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has publicly endorsed the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party ahead of the crucial February elections in Germany. Speaking at an AfD rally via video link, Musk emphasized the importance of the upcoming vote, stating that it could potentially decide Europe’s and even the world’s fate.
Musk expressed his full support for the right-wing AfD, urging party supporters to persuade Germans to vote for them en masse. He believes that the election offers a unique opportunity for change in Germany, with voting for AfD being the key to achieving this transformation. Musk addressed around 4,500 attendees at the rally, which was also joined by AfD co-leaders Tino Chrupalla and Alice Weidel, the party’s chancellor candidate.
The tech entrepreneur praised AfD’s policies, describing them as ‘common sense’ and akin to those advocated by former US President Donald Trump. Musk, who previously served as an advisor to Trump during his election campaign, assured the rally that he stands firmly behind the AfD. He highlighted the party’s commitment to reducing government intervention, restoring personal freedoms, and protecting citizens from perceived dangers.
The AfD has consistently been associated with strong anti-immigrant rhetoric, often referred to as far-right by German media outlets. Despite this controversial stance, Musk’s endorsement could significantly impact the upcoming elections, potentially swaying undecided voters towards the right-wing party.
